Executive Summary

Today's teenagers are graduating into a world defined by unprecedented macroeconomic volatility, shifting global demographics, and rapid technological automation. Traditional career counseling is broken; it prepares young people for a stable ecosystem that no longer exists.

Liminal OS is an immersive WebXR-based cockpit and its dashboard designed to help teenagers visualize complex macroeconomic forces and map agile life paths through them. By interacting with a physicalized, spatial layout, users realize that while they cannot control the economic weather outside, they have full control over their own instruments. For this hackathon, we are building a razor-focused, high-fidelity frontend interactive WebXR slice. It proves the value of macro-to-micro navigation through striking, high-impact spatial design.

The Problem

Teens face intense anxiety because they are blind to the structural forces moving around them, such as demographic shifts and regional labor market disruptions. They are forced to make massive financial and educational choices based on outdated logic. Current tooling consists of dry, static career quizzes. The cost of the status quo is youth paralysis and systemic underpreparedness. To capture a teenager's attention and convince a hackathon judge, a solution cannot just display data; it must command presence and make the invisible visible through a compelling spatial medium.

 

The Solution

An immersive WebXR-based cockpit and its dashboard styled literally as a vehicle flight deck. Powered by the Needle Engine ecosystem, the UI uses strict metaphorical mapping to translate data into direct spatial intuition:

  • The Control Panels: Represent the leverage points the youth actually possesses in their life (skills, credentials, network, location flexibility), whether they realize it yet or not. Powered by optimized Web UI representations and usable interactive widgets.
  • The Vehicle State: Reflects the teen’s current physical and mental capital (burn rate, stress levels, educational equity).
  • The View Out the Window: Represents the future environment, visualizing the knowable and unknowable economic realities ahead, such as industry decline or emerging tech hubs, as rich spatial elements flying past.

The interface elements shift based on the user's initial socioeconomic background and geographic location. A student in a rural town sees a vastly different starting instrument panel and environmental landscape than one in a major metropolitan center, visually validating their specific localized pressures.

What Makes This Different

Instead of looking backward at historical career listicles, Liminal OS looks forward by leveraging predictive frameworks. Our unfair advantage for the hackathon is this rich, spatial WebXR metaphor powered by Needle Engine, utilizing an ultra-efficient asset pipeline to hit AAA-grade visual density in 48 hours. It targets judge engagement by looking like an advanced flight simulator for life, turning data science into a visceral, 3D interactive cockpit that runs natively on standard browsers, mobile devices, and spatial headsets.

  • Primary User: Anxious high school upperclassmen trying to choose an immediate next step. They need a sense of systemic agency and a clear view of the horizon.
  • Secondary Audience (The Hackathon Judges): Looking for a highly memorable spatial execution that demonstrates immediate platform viability, lightweight web performance, and high conceptual density.

     

Success Criteria (Hackathon Benchmarks)

  • The "Aha!" Metaphor Moment: A user toggles a spatial environmental macro slider and watches their cockpit warnings change and their vehicle state update within 3 seconds.
  • Visual Impact: Potential team partners or judges can step into the WebXR environment and immediately decode the metaphor (Controls = Choices, Environment = Future) without an instruction manual.

Vision

Liminal OS eventually becomes the definitive, data-driven life navigation engine for young adults. It will scale into an active simulation layer where schools, vocational centers, and individuals can model complex macro-realities to build bulletproof career readiness curriculums in spatial environments.

Decisions

  • Scope Cut (Hackathon): Instead of building a fully dynamic generator for every zip code, we will hard-code exactly two contrasting geographical/socioeconomic cockpit presets to clearly demonstrate the spatial contrast to judges without fracturing development focus.
  • Tech Stack Choice: We will use Needle Engine and its Unity Exporter to three.js WebXR to leverage visual asset pipelines in Unity while preserving instant-load web access and fast hot-reloading iteration.
  • Asset Strategy: To fit the 48-hour window, 3D modeling overhead is eliminated by using a prebuilt prefab cockpit model, standard HTML/Web UI elements overlaying the canvas for widgets, and AI-generated stereographic skies for environmental visuals.
  • Session Architecture: Restrained to a strict Single-Pilot experience for the MVP to prioritize interaction polish over networking synchronization overhead.

Key Assumptions to Validate
